How it works
From booking to casting off
Pick your boat & send your resume
Filter by cabins, nights and dates, then save favourites to My Proposal. We confirm the boat is free, place a hold and send the fleet contract. The fleet reviews your skipper’s sailing resume before release. No resume? Add a captain.
Charter basics →Plan the route & the food
Sketch your week with the free itinerary planner, pick the moorings you want, and order provisions from a Road Town grocer for delivery to the boat. Someone from your crew signs for the delivery on board.
Itinerary planner →Check out & sail
Fly into Beef Island or ferry into Road Town. Village Cay Marina is ten minutes from the ferry dock. The fleet walks you through the boat, you stow the groceries, and you’re off to Norman Island the same afternoon.
Getting there →No hidden costs

Why book with us
Booked by captains who started out as bareboaters
We’re Cory and Emily Busichio. Cory’s family has chartered in the BVI since the mid-1990s, and he skippered Moorings bareboats here from 2005 to 2017 before becoming a sailing instructor and then a charter captain. Together we spent three seasons running crewed catamarans in these islands, and we now live aboard our own boat.
We know which moorings fill by 2 p.m., where the swell wraps in, and which boat in the fleet suits a group of eight. We price every fee up front and tell you straight if a boat or a date isn’t right for your crew.

Good to know
British Virgin Islands bareboat charters: FAQs
Do I need a licence to bareboat in the BVI?
No licence is required. The fleet reviews your skipper’s sailing resume and approves release of the boat. If nobody in your group has run a similar-sized boat, add a captain for $300 a day, or a $350 refresher captain for the check-out sail.
What does a bareboat cost beyond the charter fee?
The fleet’s required fees are BVI cruising tax ($4 per guest per night), a national parks permit ($25–$65 a week), deductible reduction ($50 a night), VISAR ($5 per guest) and cleaning ($200). Our quotes include all of them. You also pay for fuel, water top-ups and moorings ($55 a night) as you go.
How long does a charter have to be?
Four nights minimum. Charters of 4, 5 and 6 nights carry a 20%, 10% and 5% premium over the weekly rate. Start and finish on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday and the charter fee drops 5%.
How much is the security deposit?
$2,500 on most boats and $3,500 on the larger cats, taken at check-in and refunded after the boat is returned undamaged. It is not part of your quote.
When is the fleet closed?
August 1 to October 31, for hurricane season. The calendar greys out those dates. When to sail the BVI.
How do payments and cancellations work?
50% when you sign and the balance 60 days before departure; inside 60 days it is paid in full. Cancel 120+ days out and you get a refund less $600; 60–120 days out, 30% is forfeited; inside 60 days, no refund. Travel insurance is recommended.
Where does the charter start?
Village Cay Marina in Road Town, Tortola: ten minutes from the ferry terminal and about twenty from Beef Island airport. You can sleep aboard the night before for $75 per guest ($150 minimum).
